Who is PlantLanta?

Who We Are

PlantLanta is a community-rooted nonprofit growing better leaders through sustainability, creativity, and hands-on learning.

We work alongside Metro Atlanta schools, especially Title I communities, to create immersive experiences that connect environmental stewardship, STEAM education, health & wellness, and culture. From school takeovers and garden builds to composting programs and community celebrations, our work is grounded in one belief:

Young people deserve the tools, trust, and space to lead.

What We Believe

We believe learning should feel alive.

We believe sustainability isn’t just about the planet. It’s about people, equity, and access.

We believe schools are ecosystems, not just buildings.

And we believe when students see themselves as creators, problem-solvers, and caretakers of their communities, everything shifts.

How We Show Up

PlantLanta shows up in classrooms, cafeterias, gardens, and shared community spaces.

Sometimes that looks like:

  • Replacing a school day with immersive STEAM workshops

  • Helping students track and reduce food waste

  • Building outdoor learning environments

  • Partnering with schools pursuing STEAM certification

  • Bringing families together for a community block party

Other times, it looks like listening, adjusting, and growing alongside the schools we serve.

Where We're Rooted

PlantLanta began as a grassroots effort rallying young people to volunteer at urban farms and using music, culture, and creativity to engage communities.

What started small has grown into a network of programs and partnerships, but the heart remains the same:

Show up with care, build trust, and grow something that lasts.

#GrowingBetterLeaders

At its core, PlantLanta isn’t just about programs.

It’s about creating conditions where young people:

  • Grow confidence

  • Grow curiosity

  • Grow responsibility

  • Grow community

Because when we grow better leaders, we grow better futures.
