Mission
Plantlanta State University (PSU) empowers young leaders in Metro Atlanta’s Title I schools to advance environmental equity, sustainability, and community wellness.
In partnership with Atlanta’s most innovative farmers, educators, creatives, and social entrepreneurs, PSU transforms a regular school day into a full-day, hands-on STEAM experience. For one day, a school’s traditional curriculum is replaced with immersive workshops that encourage curiosity, creativity, and leadership.
Through PSU, students don’t just learn about sustainability. They practice it.
#GrowingBetterLeaders

Goals

Plantlanta State University equips students with the tools to embrace sustainable living, environmental stewardship, and community leadership.
By replacing traditional instruction with hands-on, real-world learning experiences, PSU inspires students to:
-
Grow their own food and understand where it comes from
-
Care for the environment and their surrounding communities
-
Lead their peers and families toward healthier, greener futures
-
Solve real-world challenges through creativity, critical thinking, and innovation
-
Build confidence navigating a rapidly changing, technology-driven world
By investing in the next generation of young leaders, PSU creates a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the classroom...into homes, neighborhoods, and future generations across Metro Atlanta.
What does a PSU Day Look Like?
A PSU event functions as an “in-school field trip.” Every student participates in rotating workshops led by Plantlanta instructors and partners. Workshops span a range of STEAM-aligned topics, including:
-
Urban farming and food systems
-
Health, wellness, and mindfulness
-
Music technology and digital production
-
Sustainable art and creative expression
-
Environmental science and innovation
Each experience is designed to be age-appropriate, inclusive, and rooted in real-world applications.
