PlantLanta State University (PSU)

PlantLanta State University (PSU) is a full-day immersive STEAM experience within the Metro Atlanta Title I schools. During each PSU takeover day, every student rotates through six different workshops focused on different areas: from music technology, health and wellness, urban farming, sustainable art, and more. This "in-school field trip" exposes students to a variety of curriculum areas, focused on educating and empowering all students on the importance of sustainability and community wellness initiatives.
Whether you are an educator looking to bring a PSU to your school, a yoga instructor looking to teach a workshop, or want to become a donor, we would love to have you be a part of our community.

STEAM Workshops
STEAM Workshops (also known as Workshop Spotlights) bring a taste of PSU programming to partner schools throughout the year.
Led by PlantLanta educators and creative collaborators, these workshops cover topics such as:
-
Urban farming & gardening
-
Mental health education, yoga, and mindfulness
-
Music engineering & digital production
-
Sustainable art, mural-making, and design
One recent spotlight includes STEM Stories, developed in partnership with Alliance Theatre, where teaching artists use interactive storytelling to activate school gardens as creative learning spaces.

Composting School Activations

Composting school activations teach all students how to sort waste, what items can be composted, recycled, or thrown away, and how to implement these strategies in their everyday lives.
We provide ways to track the waste by providing materials to weigh all of the composted food at the end of each day. That way, the students and schools know the impact they are making. We also provide composting education handouts for teachers to use and give to students for in-class activities.

PlantLanta Block Party

The PlantLanta Community Block Party is a community-centered celebration that brings together families, educators, creatives, and students for a day of food, music, art, sustainability, and STEAM learning in partnership with Fulton County Schools and supporters like Microsoft and Food Well Alliance.
The Block Party extends learning beyond the classroom creating space for student showcases, cultural expression, and community connection.

STEAM/STEM
Certification Partnerships
STEAM / STEM Certification Partnerships are long-term collaborations with schools working toward district or state certification goals.
Rather than one-time events, these partnerships focus on:
-
Aligning programming with certification standards
-
Supporting year-long STEAM learning pathways
-
Integrating sustainability, creativity, and systems thinking
-
Building school capacity over time
These partnerships allow PlantLanta to grow alongside schools as trusted collaborators in their STEAM or STEM journey.

School Garden Builds
Garden Builds & Revitalization projects transform school grounds into active learning spaces.
From building new raised beds to refreshing existing gardens, these projects combine hands-on learning, sustainability education, and community collaboration. Garden builds often involve students, educators, volunteers, and partners working together to create spaces that support outdoor learning, food systems education, and long-term school wellness.
These projects often connect directly to PSU, composting, and STEAM learning.
